winter wedding cakes

Winter weather forces romance upon people whether it is snuggling up in front of a cozy fire or taking a horse drawn sleigh ride through the fields. For the bride who is planning a winter wedding, a decorating must is the sparkly, crystalline snowflake. A snowflake wedding cake is much like a snowflake itself: white, magical, unique, and it melts on your tongue!

A snowflake cake for a winter wedding just makes sense. But snowflakes for a summer wedding? Sure thing, Christmas in July. Just because you aren't getting married during the snowy months, doesn't mean you can bring a little of the cold weather to a warm wedding!

White, silver, pearl, and midnight blue are all colors to take into consideration when creating your snowflake cake. Of course you are never limited to a color palette, but the striking combination of these colors will make for a truly elegant cake design.

Just like roses on a cake, snowflakes can be made from any edible cake material: fondant, frosting, sugar or even stencil work with edible paint. Cake decorators can make a metallic edible paint to cover your snowflakes and have them sparkle again the backdrop. You don't have to have three dimensional snowflakes. A cake decorator can press the snowflake design into the fondant creating a subtle snowflake pattern.

A tiered cake is the perfect design. Have your decorator create snowflakes of all shapes and sizes, getting heavier toward the bottom tier to create the illusion of collecting snow. For extra effect, have some snowflake cookies made and lay them around the base of your cake. They can be sprinkle with edible glitter as well!
